BIG small fish

BIG small fish

Postby Lucky Basstard on Mon Nov 02, 2009 5:20 pm

The biggest bluegill I can recall that I have caught was 13 oz and I got it about 3 years ago. Regional has easily got the biggest one out of all 3 of us, but we never got a measurement before realizing how massive it actually was. The Massachusetts state record is 2 pounds 1 ounce. We always think that a state record is huge, but what if it's a BIG small fish? Has anyone landed some monster tiny fish? I know Bassholio's avatar is a beefy perch.

Here's Regional's beast:

Definitely over a pound, but by how much?

- Twas on the Fifth day that the fish and fowl were created.
- On the Sixth day He made man in His image and let him have dominion over the fish of the sea, and the fowl of the air.
- On the Seventh day the Lord rested, and I picked up my rod and gun.

That thing was massive, I remember joking about having it stuffed and using it as a dinner plate.

If you caught the state record bluegill would you stuff it? Is a bluegill any less of a fish than a bass? (maybe  ) Would you stuff the biggest bass?

I think I'm just going to keep my cooler in the back of my jeep and if I ever get something massive enough to weigh in I'll just fill it with water and attempt to keep it alive.

It really depends on the situation, and how big it really is.

I touched on this I believe in another thread when a guy came up and told me "I was doing it wrong" back in the late 90's. I think he was the perch record holder and even had a perch vanity plate.

Sure its a record but he can have it. What you gonna do with a 2lb mount? what fame do you achieve from being a record holder of said small species of fish? A picture and accurate dimensions and you can have a mount done up if you wanted to

Besides the artificial mounts hold up alot better with the quality being near or close to the same IMO

If mine was a record...and i knew it...i would have got my pin, and firm handshake...and hopefully released him to live another day....and pray my record lasts longer than a year
Feel how easily the bait moves? That's a rock.
Feel it pull? You're taking it through vegetation.
Feel it grow light? Your on a brush pile.
Feel it explode and almost jerk the rod from your hand?
Thats a bass.

Well I fished Barton Cove today and caught the fattest bass I've ever seen (for its length). This fatty was 13" long, and when I pulled him to the kayak and saw the head and girth .... and then the tail RIGHT after the belly I felt ripped off.

How does something this fat still want to eat?!

Holy shit man, its got the build of a sunfish only fat, I've had my fare share of anorexic looking bass but never one like that. Nice catch.

Yeah that would be such a cool fish to have a replica made of. The guy would be like... :?:
