An unofficial world record. What's the date on that?
- Twas on the Fifth day that the fish and fowl were created.
- On the Sixth day He made man in His image and let him have dominion over the fish of the sea, and the fowl of the air.
- On the Seventh day the Lord rested, and I picked up my rod and gun.

Yeah, but...Don't they have to be alive for consideration for a record?

Sep 9, 09, The record referred to in that clip was certified by the DNR in Michigan, but they are not the official world record committee, the IGFA, international game fish association, are. They did accept him for the world record recently.

articles about the record:
http://www.igfa.org/News/post/New-All-T ... kg%29.aspx

That's one hell of a trout though. The article mentions that it was 6 years old. You guys know how long the average trout lives?

6 years seems extremely young, doesn't it?

I've heard that brown trout can live to reach 5-7 years of age, which would put the age of 6 right on the dot.

The brown trout develops quickly with a very high growth rate, slowing down only after maturity, so size really can build up fast.

However, I've also heard that trout can live up to 20-25 years. I'd assume that this is more oriented towards lake-dwelling trout, however. Depending on the location of habitation and the reproduction levels of the fish, they may grow to extreme sizes such as this record.

Seems like 16 would be a more appropriate estimate, but if 6 is correct, then that fish was very hungry.

Hope that helps.

Yeah 6 does seem real young. I mean come on, Catfish Hunter was over 100. haha

I think it might of been you, Kevin, that posted that picture "you be the judge." I read an article about that and it said the fish wasn't a record cause it escaped from a farm known to have giant trout like that. Following your line of thought they overfed em when they were young so they grew into big fat basstards.

Regional posted the photo in that thread, but I did respond with a lengthy opinion of the matter. The fish had been genetically altered to get that big, turning there efforts from reproduction to feeding. But, if it ain't natural, it ain't a record in my book. But they are wicked fat basstards. ;)

As for the one you posted. I think that's legit.
