St. Croix Triumph Spinning Rod

St. Croix has been a staple brand in the world of freshwater fishing for quite some time and has drawn an expanding crowd of BASStards in the past year with its introduction of the new Mojo Bass Rod. I have been fishing St. Croix rods ever since I casted half of my Ugly Stik into the middle of a pond my first year fishing and decided it was time to pick up a one piece outfit. The rod I selected was a 6′ 6″ Medium Heavy St. Croix Triumph, which at the time  ran me $70.00. The Triumph is a great rod for the price and served me very well through my first year of fishing until I was a full blown bassaholic and dropped $220.00 on a new St. Croix Legend Tournament Bass Rod. That being said this a great rod for those just getting into freshwater fishing that want a rod a couple of steps above what you will find at your local Wal Mart but aren’t hooked on bassin’ enough to drop over $200.00 on a high end stick. Going back to fishing the Triumph after fishing my Carrot Stix and Zillion rods is a rather disappointing experience to say the least, however if you haven’t yet been spoiled by the dark world of high end gear then the Triumph will treat you just fine. I had the rod paired with a spinning reel I picked up at Wal Mart for 40 bucks and some 12 pound Berkley Vanish line and managed two lunkers over 4 pounds fishing a YUM Dinger and a Slug-Go (pictured below).
